The Myakka River flows through the 58-square mile state park for 12 miles. There are many emorable adventures to do for the first time here. An airboat tour is available on Upper Myakka Lake, with a tram tour of the parks hammocks and river floodplain offered seasonally. Some 7500 acres of the park are designated a wilderness preserve. There are abundant cottontail rabbits, deer, bobcat, red-shouldered hawks and other wildlife in the park. A 15-mile riding trail is available for park visitors who bring their own horses. Safari tram tours of the park´s backcountry are offered from mid-December through May. Full-facility campgrounds and primitive campsites are available. Five palm log cabins, built in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps, have been modernized for comfortable lodging. Official web site: Myakka River State Park |
